The Nutcracker

A little fast-forwarded performance of parts of the ballet, The Nutcracker.

“Beep.”

A rigorous beep sounded. It was scarcely 5 am. A limp figure, sunken with its head on its chest rested on the floor.

Her head began to rise to the music echoing through the room, her feet with a mind of its own. The soft swell of music rang through the room enveloping the figure, dancing to The Nutcracker.

This is a little hobby that I took up during social-distancing as I had a great amount of time on my hands. And to stay fit within my apartment, dancing was the perfect solution!

No matter how small the room that I could occupy was, it was always worthy to stay active after a day of sitting and lounging about in my home.

Although the original Nutcracker ballet is a story based on a small girl named Clara who, with the help of a toy nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and defeats the horrid Mouse King. My take on this ballet is a figure (this could metaphorically be anyone) during this isolated time waking up after a long sleep at 5 am in the morning (hence the alarm that goes off at the beginning). It signifies the haze and drowsiness that can consume someone after a long day. She wakes up and begins to dance to the nutcracker, spinning (although not gracefully) to the music.

The lives we lead at the moment could be full of turns and lows and highs. And sometimes even, we can get knocked off of the balance of life, and fall into a desolate trap. But, we must always keep a light heart that can always leap, twirl, jump, and dance, no matter how young or old we are, to fight off the darkness that may and will surround us.

The Nutcracker is one of my favorites, I think you did an amazing job of analyzing it and comparing it to your own life! Great Job!:)
